Why Start Now?
The idea of starting a blog has been swirling around in my mind for the past few years, probably even since I graduated high school in 2019. However, like many other young women and young people in general, I felt the immense fear of what others might think if I decided to put myself and my thoughts out there for everybody to read, and worse, make judgment on.
So instead of starting off on my own, I joined two different publications on my college campus where I could write articles, make edits, and enjoy a sense of a strong community of writers who share similar passions and interests. Both of these publications nurtured my writing skills and my creative soul, but I still feel as though I have more to say. As I transition into my adult life and away from the life of a student, I realize how I still desire a space to share my thoughts, experiences, and maybe even some advice with the world. This led to the leap of faith that I’m taking now by starting Curated by Carly. If we are being honest, I’m still partially terrified to put myself out there in this capacity, but the fear of letting my passion for writing die out is so much stronger.
Hopefully, I will be able to meld this passion into my professional life and career, but with college graduation just a few short months away, I’m not entirely sure how to do that just yet. Up until recently, I thought that if I didn’t immediately go into a job with a publishing company, magazine, or newspaper, my writing career would be over, dead, six feet under. With the help of my logical best friend and level-headed boyfriend, I was reminded that there is no reason to rush the future, especially if it means you’re neglecting the present. This blog is partially an attempt for me to take those words to heart and stop wondering what shape my writing will take in the future, when I’m not even taking the time to fully invest in it right now at the present!
Ultimately, I truly don’t expect anybody other than my close family and friends to read what I have to write, but on the off chance that you stumbled upon this blog, I want to thank you for taking the time to read the words I have written here and I hope you stick around!
